Collaboration and teamwork is an important part of a well-rounded education. Students in my classes are asked to work together daily, and Chromebooks aid in this endeavor.
My school is an average elementary school in a rural area of Missouri. Due to the socioeconomic realities of our community, many of my students lack access to technology. I find that our students are motivated by technology. They enjoy everything that involves computers, from online research in Social Studies, to creating presentations for Science, to bridging units during cross-curricular learning. If you incorporate technology into the assignment, student interest rises exponentially.
The Chromebooks I've requested will be used by students to collaborate, peer-edit, and receive feedback from me. They will be used throughout the entire day, but specifically during cross-curricular lessons that involve social studies and applied sciences. We specifically look at how technology has affected growth and change in the United States. We also research and plan solutions to problems that exist across the globe.
The Chromebooks will also be used for math practice, as there are innumerable resources available, such as Khan Academy, IXL, and many more. Daily exposure to and practice on websites such as these has provided statistically significant growth in the math scores of my students.
