Many students struggle to develop the basic skills required to complete classroom activities from an early age. These delays can negatively influence their learning and self esteem. The materials in my project will help young students develop the fine motor skills needed for writing and using scissors.
It is amazing how a few simple, well-chosen tools can make a huge difference in children's fine motor development and their confidence! Magnetic letter builders will give these future writers a solid foundation of how letters are made. Slant boards improve visual attention to writing tasks as well as correct wrist positioning to foster a mature grasp and legible handwriting. Triangular grips and specialty crayons also help students develop a mature grasp on their writing tools. Kids like to use dry-erase markers, and their use, along with worksheet sleeves also allow us to reuse paper and reduce the amount of waste we produce. Adaptive scissors provide a way for our youngest students and those with disabilities to participate in class art projects independently, while gaining the strength, coordination, and confidence to move on to a regular scissors if and when they are ready.
