Our group of special students require differentiated instruction and need to access their curriculum in different ways. We use real life pictures, icons and symbols to teach our students. We do this by creating academic tasks and activities using color visuals that help our students differentiate concepts, topics, objects and communication based symbols.
Color printing is essential for students who require real life symbols to navigate their daily schedule and request their needs and wants by handing over picture symbols. Being able to make a new icon for a student who has learned a new word or giving them a way to communicate by pointing at a drink or picture of a bathroom is crucial for them to feel apart of the classroom community.
