In our school we use the reader's workshop model during class. That means that I teach a lesson first. Then the kids go into independent reading time and practice whatever skill was taught that day in their independent reading books. During this time I meet with small groups of students. At the end of class we meet again to reflect on our learning for the day. The new books that we will receive for our classroom library will increase our student's motivation to read. They need books where they see themselves represented in the main character. They need books that are engaging. Simply put, they need books that they like. These books that we receive will help our students to engage in reading and become life long readers.
