My students love learning about the world around them. Their eyes light up when they learn a new fact or see a vibrantly colored photograph. They can't wait to share what they have discovered. Many of the non-fiction texts currently in our classroom library are too advanced for my young readers to understand. I would love to add new non-fiction books to our library that are engaging and written at a level my students can independently read and understand.
Reading non-fiction texts invites students to learn about their world and develop non-fiction reading skills. Many of the books requested overlap content covered in our social studies and science units. Students will love the opportunity to continue to learn about concepts on their own during reading time. New non-fiction books will help students read not only for fun, but for information. This project will be able to serve dozens of students for years to come.
