My goal is to create life-long readers. The benefits of reading are endless. Not only does reading expand vocabulary and sharpen critical thinking skills, but it also reduces stress and inspires. Reading answers questions. Reading creates questions.
Reading can not only help students focus, but also increases their knowledge about themselves, about others, and about the world. Not every book appeals to every person. Variety is important when choosing books, especially for middle school students. Some of my students are at risk for becoming non-readers. The more reading options that students have to choose from, the more likely they are to find that one, perfect book or author that makes them want to read a book. And then another. And another. Until they call themselves. . . a reader.
