We have a lending library of adapted toys for children in our program who have multiple disabilities that make accessing play and communication difficult. This lending library is dwindling because toys are worn out and have not been replenished for the last 10 years. Adapted switch toys provide students especially with limited cognition, mobility, and ability to communicate an opportunity to access toys during play time in preschool. Because the toys are also interesting to children around them, it encourages interaction with peers as they play together with a toy that can be accessed by all. It is also a great training ground to solidify cause and effect, and help understand how the switch works in preparation for further communication devices, especially a single button that is similar to the switch button that can be pushed to relay a single prerecorded message. These adapted toys are a beneficial part of their preschool experience.
