Research shows that adolescents usually identify as kinesthetic learners, meaning that they understand best when able to physically engage in their learning. This looks different depending on the content being taught, but in my class, we often use what are called "manipulatives," papers or real-world objects that students can hold and work with. Further, many adolescents report that when they write something, it helps to make their learning more solid and concrete. However, my school is almost completely out of paper and there is no room left in our budget to buy more (for a staff of 75 teachers). Given the socioeconomic status of our students, we cannot ask them for supply donations either.
Without paper to print handouts, worksheets, maps, menus, games, instructions, exams, prep packets (the list goes on), my students aren't being given their best opportunity to learn. I am seeking a donation of printer paper so that I can print anything and everything that my students need to succeed in French for the rest of the year. I also plan to share this donation with other teachers in the World Language Department, as we are all in the same unfortunate predicament.
