Each student has a variety of sensory needs, gross and fine motor impairments as well as challenging learning demands. A creative and hands-on learning environment is required to meet the unique learning needs of each student. All of my students love technology but have difficulty accessing material on the computer because of fine motor impairments and level cognitive functioning. All students are beginning readers and require read-aloud. 50% of the students have Autism Spectrum Disorder and have difficulty self-regulating.
My students would benefit from hands-on learning tools. We currently have a projector, but many lessons would be much more effective if students were able to interact with the material. I am hoping to incorporate Kindle Fires into the classroom to increase meaningful learning opportunities. Additionally, I would like to design a sensory/flexible seating area. The students would be able to use bean bag chairs to self-regulate and/or for seating.
