I have thirteen third graders in my class and all of them like to move and wiggle during my lessons. I would love to give them the opportunity of flexible seating. I brought in my own yoga ball from home and they love it! My wiggliest student is able to focus and concentrate while sitting on the yoga ball.
When I allow my students to choose their own comfy seating I see a huge increase in participation and engagement. I don't like sitting at a desk all day so I don't expect my students to do so either. I have selected more yoga balls, a bean bag chair, and flex space comfy floor seats. These items will allow students more options for flexible seating and allow them to focus while getting their wiggles out. Another thing I have noticed when I allow my students to choose their own seating is, they make good choices about where they should sit and who they should sit next to.
