Mikhayla Hughes-Shaw is Miss Iowa 2018. Mikhayla's life is a powerful testament to overcoming obstacles including bullying, low-self esteem and even depression. Through it all, she has persevered. Through it all, Mikhayla always had hope. Mikhayla's presentation includes an icebreaker, engaging activities, a Q&A session, and a violin performance. Mikayla's campaign, "How About H.O.P.E.", which stands for "helping others and providing encouragement" creates and sustains conversations surrounding mental health and suicide awareness. During her school visit, Miss Iowa will teach our students about the five lessons of HOPE: love yourself, try something new, follow your dreams, speak out, and have confidence.
