As a new, third year teacher, I am always looking for opportunities to learn more about teaching, and find new ways to improve my craft. Last year, a colleague of mine suggested that I read The Wild Card. This book had a profound impact on my teaching. I began thinking about the learning experiences I enjoy most, what learning experiences bring out my strengths, and what experiences my enthusiastic, active, curious third graders need to enjoy learning and recognize their own strengths as well.
Throughout this year, I have started reach outside of my comfort zone to engage my students, and to help instill in them the belief that they each have unique qualities deeply rooted inside of them to help them achieve any goal they imagine and set.
The authors of this incredible book are hosting a 4 day professional development conference in June to provide teachers with new strategies for raising student engagement, and making learning FUN. Topics at previous conferences include Engaging Readers, STEM, Social Studies & Culture, Writer's Workshop, Technology Integration, and so much more!
