In my classes, students are encouraged to tackle challenges with the understanding that only from failure are we able to grow and develop our abilities. In order to foster mathematical growth mindsets in all my students, I need resources that create an equitable learning environment.
A set of basic calculators for the classroom will allow my diverse students from different economic and cultural backgrounds to avoid time-consuming computation and participate in mathematical problem solving and application. Providing students with the same technology is an equalizer and encourages students to collaborate on the same level instead of one where some students have graphing calculators and others do not.
Additionally, supplies that reduce the amount of time spent in class on basic computation and worksheets increases engagement and intrinsic motivation and participation.
