My students come from a low-income area. A large percentage of our students are on free or reduced lunch. I teach kindergarten, and absolutely love it! I try to make my class more like a family, and create a sense of community to make my students comfortable with taking risks with their learning, and knowing that it's ok to make mistakes. Our class motto is, "A winner in our room is one who tries", because I tell them it's ok to try and make a mistake, but it's not ok to quit or not try. The best part about my class is that excitement you see on their face when they understand something they've been working so hard on. My greatest joy comes from when a student can read, when they began the year knowing zero letters and sounds!! Nothing compares to the smile on their face when they realize they can read!
