Sensory tools can be used in several ways that benefit learners with special needs. Tools such as the weighted blanket and rice, noodles; kinetic sand would be particularly beneficial to my students with Autism. Some of my students need sensory tools to be able to concentrate, participate and actively learn in and out of the classroom. Sensory toys help my students sit and engage with materials that may otherwise be too challenging or sensory over-stimulating. These tools also allow my students to self-sooth and regulate their emotions. Many of my students have difficulty coping and regulating their emotions due to their disabilities and/ or traumas they have endured. I'm requesting a variety of different sensory materials which can be used to relieve anxiety and stress, as well as increase focus, particularly with students with Autism. I need these materials to help us set up a sensory area where the students can come and explore. This will help them self-soothe and be able to sit and work once more. By donating to this project, you are directly contributing to the development of young learners, who may otherwise not have the tools and materials to learn in an academic environment.
