Teaching middle school is different every moment of every day. Think back to your middle school years and most of us have blocked that time out. Todays middle schoolers navigate halls and classes packed to the brim, with little space for creativity and comfort. This comfort is lost in the sterile halls of public education. At our school we work hard to create a unique learning environment that encourages students to learn...but what about a science classroom?
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. During class, students are working on a variety of projects without a variety of seating options. Imagine the wiggles that a 13-year-old can have. The same hard plastic chairs day after day...No Thanks!!!
Science seems to be the one place that classroom comfort doesn't exist. The black lab tables and chairs are not the flexible, cool, comfy seating that other teachers have. Students look for choice, but can't find it in class. My students want a place that is not just educational but flexible. Science stools will add comfort and flexibility to a crowded environment.
