Flexible seating is a great way to allow students to take ownership of their learning. Children in classrooms are used to being told where they sit, how they sit, who they need to sit by and that is not an effective way for students to be their best learner.
It is important that students learn at a young age to be self advocates especially when it comes to their learning. Without flexible seating, students are expected to all be in the typical desk and chair model and the reality is that, that is not what is best for each student. Some students have active bodies and need to have options around the room for them to make their best learning choices.
Although my classroom currently has desks, tables, and clipboard on the floor options, the seating for the floor isn't a great choice for using technology. The students in my classroom have opportunities to use Chromebooks and iPads in their assignments but we advise that they do not sit on the floor to keep the technology safe. This takes away from allowing students to have the flexibility of where they sit if they are using these technology options. With the products I have selected for this project, students will be able to sit on the floor, while allowing their Chromebook or iPad to be on a desk or table top. These products overall allow more choice, organization and learning opportunities.
