Students can put their best foot forward when they walk into a safe and nurturing space. They are instantly calmed by the organization of the classroom, by the learning materials that are available to them, and by the flexible seating arrangements around the room. When materials are stored and organized for them to easily access (on a see-all storage shelf), they know exactly how and what to get, and where to return them.
In a flexible, comfortable environment, where students have movement breaks and freedom to move from wobble seats to floor cushions to a cozy lounger, they focus and attend better to lessons and follow-through on their classwork. Fun activities such as the mystery box and sensory beads also help to keep students "on their toes." When students are rewarded for their hard work and efforts, they take more ownership of their learning. Students are also empowered to take better care of themselves and their class community when they can focus on their learning.
