My counseling and social skills game libraries are very limited and outdated. I would greatly appreciate more books and games to provide more learning tools and resources for my students. I provide whole group and individual guidance to students who have the ability to alter some of their behaviors when they see themselves in current literature that ties to my guidance topic. Students also develop stronger social and emotional skills through play.
Unfortunately, I lack children's books that have lead characters who deal with some of the hurdles they may face (i.e. ADHD, ODD, Dyslexia, anxiety, etc). Books like Tom's Special Talent, Knees, Wilma Jean the Worry Machine, and I Think I Have the Wiggle Fidgets allow children to see a non-stereotypical protagonist which yields a sense of inclusion.
My current social skills games lack relevant topics of today. The ability to receive more card decks for my Totika will allow me to explore more social and emotional skills with my students. Games like Totem allow for a nonthreatening way to boost morale and self-efficacy. Please allow me the opportunity to provide new and exciting books and games that appeal to my generation of students.
