Flexible seating in the classroom will allow students to move around and make a learning choice that is best for them. When teaching young children movement is hugh. Third graders spend the entire afternoon, from 12:40 PM-3:45 PM in our small classroom. Students will benefit greatly from having seating options that allow for some wiggling around. Currently students may choose to work at desks, on the floor with a pillow and clipboard, or on crate seats I have built. Students are visibly more engaged when they have a choice of where to sit and are able to move around.
Movement leads to engagement. My hope is to increase student engagement and productivity in the classroom. If students have the option of choosing to sit and wiggle on these six wobble stools while they work, they will be more focused on the task or learning at hand. Additionally students will be more intrinsically motivated to learn if they are able to make a choice of where to sit. Please help my fidgety learners grow!
