My new students from China and Argentina are not able to read in English yet. They are adjusting to a new country and new school. They love to read titles like Harry Potter and Diary of a Wimpy Kid just like their fourth grade friends. These books will allow my students to participate in independent reading at school and home. Books in their home language will give them the opportunity to continue growing their literacy skills as they begin to develop skills in English. Having students read familiar texts will also help them make connections with other students in class.
