This would be an opportunity to have drums come alive in the gym. With the access of an iPad we can watch videos of exercising with rhythm sticks and the students can follow along to the routines. We have an average of 90 students per 45 minute PE class. All grade levels PreK - 5th grade come to gym 5 days a week. I get the opportunity of instilling the importance of physical activity to each of them each day. Using the rhythm sticks can help strengthen the heart and lungs, improve flexibility, increase muscular strength and endurance and can be adaptable for all physical ability levels. These sticks can also help increase focus and attention, decrease behavior issues and build confidence and self expression. So all students will be using the body and brain in the gym. Our district and campus were affected by Hurricane Harvey. We had several families displaced for extended periods of time, including new students from more severely affected areas. Our district also had to cancel two full weeks of school. The iPad and rhythm sticks I am seeking to purchase will help close the gaps that Harvey caused by providing an environment that students will feel comfortable in, want to be, and most importantly build confidence while be physically active. With the ability to incorporate technology and the rhythm sticks into PE, I can give my students a sense of normalcy and empower them to be successful. I appreciate you taking the time to read my ideas for this project. I personally want to thank anyone who is willing to help make Plug it, Play it, Pound it come alive into the Gym.
