Research has shown allowing students to move helps them to maintain focus in the classroom. Flexible seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow through the body, and core strength. In kindergarten, our goal is to engage our young learners by providing exciting and fun lessons throughout the day. Flexible seating keeps young minds more alert and focused while learning.
Students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment.
We hope to provide fidget bands for our classroom chairs to increase self-regulation and allow for movement during seatwork. Cushions are versatile and can be used on the carpet or at our desks to provide core stimulation and sensory input to those students that need it. This kind of stimulation can help students stay focused and process information, especially those with ADHD and ASD. Our stadium seats will provide support during carpet work and will help students stay in their own space while engaging in whole group lessons.
