Students will be able to build a community out of Legos and make design changes that will protect and strengthen their community when faced with natural disasters that we will create in our STEM/STEAM Class. This will give them the opportunity to see how design is affected by natural phenomenon. This will allow them to think of and create solutions that will help to solve their communities' problems. In turn making safer communities.
They will experience classroom made natural disasters. They will look at how floods affect communities. If they learn how to build smarter and stronger buildings and infrastructure than their communities might sustain less damage in a tornado or hurricane. They will also be able to see how earthquakes and wind at high altitudes can affect structures. All of this exploration allows them to grow their thinking and understanding which in turn grows their desire to apply their knowledge in the real world. It also gives them confidence in themselves that they can do anything they set their minds to. It shows them how great it would be to work in a STEM or STEAM field.
