Working with juniors and seniors in high school often involves having the students work in groups. Sometimes they are in small groups of three or four, and sometimes they are in larger groups of six or eight. It鈥檚 important to have students work together collaboratively on assignments, in inquiry stations, and through discussion questions because it prepares them for real-world situations they will soon face in college and their careers. It鈥檚 important to me that my students are exposed to a variety of viewpoints, people and engagement strategies throughout our English class.
This project will help make working in groups easier. Right now, the desks are connected to chairs and they are heavy and cumbersome to move. It would be great to have a classroom that makes it easy for students to move their desks around to make variations of groups. I am hoping that with this project, my classroom will become a place where we work together through the texts we read, the writing we write and the discussions we engage in.
