Being able to take pictures in low light situations is essential to our yearbook photographers. Having access to better lenses would be a huge benefit to all of them. Obtaining lenses with a low f-stop are essential to capturing photos in poor lighting. The lenses we are asking for have f-stops that go down to 1.8, and are far superior to the basic lenses that come with our Canon cameras (they go down to 5.6). A lower f-stop (aperture) allows a photographer to shoot photos in low light situations such as a classroom. The lenses being asked for will enable use to take the photos at a professional level.
School hallways, gyms, and lunchrooms are notorious for their poor, artificial lighting and these lenses would go a long way in helping their pictures look more professional. Many of them are often frustrated with the outcome when they have to take pictures with the standard, kit lenses that we have, as they do not allow them to open up the aperture far enough to really get great shots in the all too common low light situations.
