My students are the next generation of innovators and world-changers. I ask them every day to dream big, and I want them to be prepared for the future of technology without being fully reliant on it. A 3D printer would allow them to experiment with their ideas, collaborate on designs, and create things that benefit their world...and give them the understanding that the printer can only do what they program it to do.
I have students who have shown an interest in designing art pieces that they would then donate, in creating items that would benefit handicapped classmates, and perfecting camping gear equipment designs for their Scout troop.
For my young students to have an idea turn into a solid object would be an incredible experience for us all.
