I've been doing flex seating for the first time this year, and I have a group of kids with lots of sensory and anxiety worries. Most of them need quiet, time, and unique space to do their best work. I have a child who is on the autism spectrum and is constantly moving around the room. Having flex seating in place has benefited him and all my other students in a way I'd never imagined.
They love taking ownership over their chosen "seats" throughout the day and are avidly following the rules I've put in place since this is a privilege. I really need more options for them and am eager to provide that as much as I can. Which is why part of my project is reaching out to get the students portable lap desks so they can work around the room
Because of their sensory needs, having a class set of headphones would allow all of them to zero in on what they are doing and tune out distractions around them. These would be an amazing asset for my kiddos to utilize during their independent work time, whether it be on the computer or reading and writing.
