I chose Time for Kids as a Reading Resource for the students for several reasons. The first reason is that it supports the students apprehension of their NC Reading Standards in Informational text. Secondly, I chose Time for Kids because it contains Historical and Current Events happening in around the world.
Time for Kids allows the students to learn about similarities and differences of people, places, cultures and practices from all over the world.
It also provides new and interesting topics that are engaging for the students. They enjoy learning about the world around them and becoming inspired by others. It inspires them in their future reading and writing. I once had a student that didn't enjoy reading at all. He happen to read one of the sample magazines that the company sent me on dolphins and he was hooked. The student then began reading books on dolphins, researching online about dolphins and giving me facts constantly.
This is the type of learning that this resource can spark. It is a wonderful tool to deliver instruction in a engaging way. Each resource comes with extension activities that the students can use to expand on their learning and teacher support materials also
