Sensory processing is something that we often think little about but this can be a major concern for our students with Autism. They are constantly faced with overwhelming stimulation from the environment and need ways to regulate their bodies' responses. For example, walking into a new place, using the bathroom or sitting at a desk can cause anxiety which leads to a lack in focus. This makes it difficult for our students to reach their academic potential. The intensity with which they see the world can often cause them to shut down. We are requesting a projector to help build a sensory room that will stimulate different parts of the student mind and body by using technology. Autism has a variety of aspects that causes our children to react differently to different situations; by having a projector we will be able to give a wide range of calming sensations, visuals, and interactive activities that will benefit multiple behaviors. For my project, a projector will serve different purposes for each individual child in our sensory room as well as in our general education classes. This item will help with transitions throughout the academic school day and will allow students to be more successful as the projector will help promote a better learning environment. Please help support our physical education and sensory needs through the use of this interactive piece of equipment. All donations are GREATLY appreciated.
