The students I have the privilege of teaching are in third and fourth grades and are all identified as having a learning disability. These outstanding students struggle to learn to read due to having a dyslexic-type disability which requires an Individual Education Plan and specific instructional techniques in order for them to make progress in reading words fluently. Access to decodable text that provides practice in specific phonic elements that have been taught is crucial for these students to become independent readers. The Five Chapter Books series of phonics readers will provide this necessary practice and will enable my students to move closer to grade level reading and to a lifetime of being literate citizens.
