I teach children in grades K-5 with unique learning needs. Like their same age peers, they enjoy sports, spending time with friends, superheroes (their favorite this year is Spiderman), and learning new things. They keep me up to date on the latest pop music, movies, and video games. We have so much fun together every day.
Because of their learning needs, I need to maintain a nontraditional and comfortable classroom environment with individualized curriculum and instruction. Many of their needs cannot be met due to a lack of funds. My students require movement to focus, feel relaxed, and learn. Tools that help them include flexible seating, fidgets, and large motor equipment. They also require interesting curricula that meet their specific learning needs; it is difficult to find engaging reading material for a fifth grade student with a first grade reading level. With the right tools, they meet their full potential.
