My students are working on developing social, emotional, and behavioral skills along with fine motor skills. Pretend play is a great way to help them achieve this goal. As they play they will also develop vocabulary and language skills.
We will be using the materials to reinforce many different themes and concepts. The food items will be used to reinforce the concept of farming. In our classroom, we set up an orchard and farmers market where students can pretend and learn about farming, harvesting, taking to market, and finally cooking in the home for a family. They will be used to show students how to make healthy food choices. We will also work on basic math concepts of color sorting and counting. These items will be used by students throughout the school year.
The workbench and accessories will be used to help students develop much needed fine motor skills along with math concepts and problem solving skills in a fun and exciting way.
My students will use the mailbox to act as mail delivery people. We will learn how the mail system works while delivering letters that will be created by students in the writing center.
