The tinkering resources requested promote the Nevada State Academic Content Standards for Science and engineering under the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS):
Children are born investigators.
Educators at all levels elicit and make use of student ideas and student capacities for engaging in science and engineering practices in designing instruction.
The materials requested give students equipment to create and build and design and problem solve as they work on social skills necessary in the team building disciplines of 6th grade Engineering Design MS-ETS1-4. Develop a model to generate data for iterative testing and modification of a proposed object, tool, or process such that an optimal design can be achieved. My students need tinkering time with these creative materials so they can develop interpersonal skills with their peers and learn how to work with others once again collaborating, compromising and strengthening their tolerance for others and their compassion for others, skills they have forgotten about as they were isolated from their peers for a year and a half.
