I love teaching recorder because it is a phenomenal way to form musical literacy in the Elementary classroom. The music that we focus on gives each student the chance to challenge themselves daily. The students are always so excited to meet different milestones through our unit. They begin to realize that something they thought was hard at first is something they can now do all on their own. Recorder is one of the most enjoyable and satisfying things that I have been able to experience as an Elementary music teacher.
Through this project, each student will be able to keep their own recorder at home to practice their songs for the next week and move at their own pace through the unit. Students are able to make much more progress than when only practicing once a week in the classroom.
