In addition to learning History and Spanish, my classroom is a home base for a cohort of young scholars. Throughout the day, students explore the diversity of world cultures. We learn about how societies began and grew, and the contributions they provided. In addition, it is a language learning lab for both native and non-native English speakers. The students are courageous and reflective learners. We also dedicate time and space for community building, which supports the learning.
The young people I work with are curious, creative, enthusiastic, dedicated and hard-working. Eduction and knowledge are important to them. While developing independence and self-esteem, they are growing as compassionate citizens of the world. Their efforts to remain engaged in their learning and the local community are admirable. Despite various distractions and challenges, these scholars tap into their resiliency and optimism.
