All of the 4th and 5th grade students can participate in the school Battle of the Books! The students can read all of the titles and then use the knowledge they have acquired to battle against each other to be on the traveling team. The traveling team will battle each of the other teams from the elementary schools in our district. The winner of the school district moves on to battle other winning schools in the region and then on to the state level. Without these books my students will not have the knowledge to compete effectively.
Students get excited and enthusiastic about reading and discussing books. Students will have a chance to read individually, in small groups, and in a "read with/to" setting. I try to involve students of all reading abilities to be a part of this program. I encourage third grade students to read these books because the titles are often recycled and they are great books.
