Our school has approximately 750 students, the majority of which come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. A large portion of these students are receiving free and reduced lunches. Many of the students attending our school have had limited life experiences. Some have never even had an opportunity to travel out of our town limits. Our school does have a good band, a choir, an ASB, and occasional sports functions, but offers little more in the way of extracurricular activities for most of the students. Overall, I feel that I have a terrific group of 6th grade students, most of which are eager to learn and do well in school. They have a natural curiosity about the world and embrace the chance to better themselves through education.
