Covid-19 has set many students back, but this project will expand their minds to new authors and topics they can relate to. I want to remind my students how fun reading can be. I want to show them what it's like to be so caught up in a novel, that you can't put the book down.
When a student enjoys reading, they forget they are learning! Authors like Jason Reynolds are refreshing to my students because his characters and storylines are so relatable. The main character in Tornado Brain shows students the thoughts of someone who may be different from them. No Fixed Address gives students a look at homelessness. All of the chosen titles are award-winning books that, in their own way, portray diversity and insight into new characters and ideas.
