The image of a classroom lined with rows and rows of tradition student desks is no longer the image painted in a 21st century classroom.
Teachers across the world are flipping this antiquated model to a flexible classroom to encourage high engagement, motivation, and student ownership.
There are many different research supported reasons to move towards flexible seating. Flexible seating options create an inviting space where student want to learn. It's proven that when students feel safe and comfortable in their environment that they have a better opportunity to thrive. Flexible seating allows students to take charge and ownership of their learning. It teaches self advocacy to make choices that best supports themselves. Flexible seating ensures students level of comfort in the classroom, which is an essential component in motivating them and keeping them engaged in learning. In addition to engagement, it also keeps students more alert and focused.
Flexible seating also allows for multiple opportunities of behavior support and sensory integration. For students with autism, sensory items like wobble chair and bounce bands can help moderate behavior and provide the sensory stimulation needed for students.
There are so many other reasons that provide reasoning behind the amazing results of flexible seating in classrooms around the world. I hope you will donate to my project to support and encourage a comfortable environment, active engagement, and self advocacy for my students!
Thank you in advance!
