Having students read and discuss the novel The Jungle, will allow them to understand the obstacles and adversity that some had to overcome to survive while providing a service to others. Students will read the book over the period of a six weeks to increase their background knowledge of why the government became so heavily involved in agriculture.
Students will have a better understanding of "What would we do without agriculture". They will learn the background of why so many laws have been implemented while enhancing their reading and communication skills. Students will work together to inform others about the positive implications of agriculture.
