Telescopes were created to look into the sky at many celestial bodies. Tripods are useful (and needed) to keep the objects in view for multiple viewers to use and to keep the telescope steady.
Being able to see the Moon, Planets, and Stars through a telescope makes the viewing more real and personal than just viewing from a book or computer picture. When students view the Moon or Saturn, they are usually very impressed; more in person than from a picture.
Creating the reality-based imagination of what is out in space helps assist students to think about future projects, especially space related.
