I have attended some very eye-opening professional development recently and it has completely changed my mindset about what it takes for students to acquire language.
Fluency is incredibly important- and it is vital to have a classroom library so that students have access to the language. Students will read the requested novels individually, in groups, or as a class. We will also do comprehension checks and activities throughout the texts.
The most important thing for a teacher to do in a language classroom is to connect to their students- I will help students connect to the books through personalized questions and answers so that we can get to know each other more and create a stronger classroom culture.
