Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choice of where to sit that work best for them. During independent work times and small group learning, they can choose a location in the classroom that works for them. My students will be able to work in a variety of locations in our room such as at different tables, sitting under tables with clipboards, sitting in beach chairs, on a yoga ball, or sitting or lying on the floor with a clipboard. Giving students comfortable options to work is an essential component in motivating them. My students will be able to choose the best seating option for them. Perhaps they will choose the wobble stool that will allow them to get their wiggles out while they work. Or maybe it will be the Trideer Exercise ball and stability ring where student can strengthen their core muscles while reading a book. Or maybe it will be the Surf Colorful Lap Desk where students can comfortably sit on the floor with a lap desk to write on.
Because many of my students struggle to maintain their focus on learning, they will be able to use the Kick Bands Bouncy Chair Bands for Kids. These bands go on the front legs of the student鈥檚 chair or desk, and the student can push or kick against the band with their feet. This is another way for my students to be able to be active while learning. Students will also be able to choose from fidgets to also help them focus on learning.
By being able to have these choices in the classroom, my students will learn strategies that will help them focus in order to become life-long learners.
