My students thrive on choice and independence and I often encourage them to work in a space where they can do their very best learning. That's not always at a desk! Often they are spread out around the room and I want it to feel cozy and allow them to find a comfortable space.
The carpets, bean bag chairs, and lamps allow for flexible seating in various parts of the classroom so students can grab their materials, get comfortable, and begin applying their learning. My goal is to have a comfortable, welcoming environment where students can thrive.
Motivation and achievement rise when students are given choices in both the content of what they're working on and the space in which they do the work. I foster independence and want students to learn how to make their best choices for success.
