We read many genres in second grade: fantasy, realistic fiction, and biographies, but the students beg for informational text about animals. With a subscription to Scholastic Animals, students can pour over vibrant photos of new and exciting creatures and that鈥檚 motivating! They WANT to learn and read about this topic. They can practice new vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension independently, with a buddy, or in a group. A favorite book can be read more than once! We can use these magazines in guided reading as well, looking for high-frequency words, phonics applications, and reading for just the fun of it, that鈥檚 what it鈥檚 all about!
