Providing rugs and bean bag chairs will create individualized learning spaces where students can sit while learning. Students who need a quieter place to work can take one of the bean bag chairs to a secluded place in the classroom. Students can also sit on the rugs while reading, working, or watching instructional presentations.
Our classroom also has a reading corner where students can choose a book and sit in to read. The chairs will give the students (early finishers) a place to sit while reading for Accelerated Reader. This will keep them from disturbing other students who are still working.
By providing seating choices for students, responsibility is placed in the hands of the students, which makes them feel more in control of their learning experiences.
