My students will use these centers to create amazing engineering projects. I work with students during the day and in the after school club that focuses on STEAM and environmental projects. When presented with different problems to solve, they come up with great solutions that astonish me. However, they do not have a lot of opportunities to try, practice, and even fail at problem solving projects. They need time to ask questions, build communication skills through conversations and discussions with group mates, and test out their ideas. If I can create an environment that is free of judgement and full of exploration, the students will then have the time and materials to focus and develop even better problem-solving and design skills.
My students have a great capacity for creating and designing. With these materials, I will be able to given them those experiences. They will have the time to create new designs or solutions to problems. I will be able to use the materials with different groups during the day from various grade levels. In the afternoon, I will be able to utilize the materials to help more students learn how to create solutions to typical engineering projects.
