My students are in a urban, highly diverse, and high poverty district. My classroom continues to grow in numbers; this year it includes 36 students, 10 of whom have special needs and are fully included. Many students come from a home where parents are unemployed or work multiple jobs to make ends meet. Due to their age, my students are often left home alone, or are responsible for younger siblings before and after school. These children need a classroom that allows them to be creative, take risks in learning, and not worry about the things in their life they can't control, such as having the needed supplies.
