My third grade students are learning about the power of choice and the responsibility that comes with it. We are also learning about self-awareness of our emotions, our thoughts and our bodies, through various mindfulness activities.
Flexible seating will allow my students to explore and uncover which fits their learning styles and needs the best. The seating will also allow students to take breaks throughout our math block, when and if they are needed. We already have two bean bag chairs and a few seat discs; however, we need some additional wobble chairs and floor seats for small group instruction and to enhance our Chill Spot, which is our class mindfulness corner.
Students will feel empowered when given the responsibility to choose where and how they want to learn within our classroom. They also need homework incentive and tracking charts to build responsibility and independence!
